My Favorite Remedy For A Pink Eye

There are so many different methods out there on how to treat a pink eye naturally, but from all the methods that I’ve tried, I only liked one the most. Lipton tea is the “king” in my house when someone gets a pink eye. I found Lipton tea being the most effective, simple and fast acting way to clear up eye infections. If an eye infection was caught at the beginning stage, Lipton tea method should clear the infection within only one time of applying it to an eye! That’s what happened in my case just recently.

Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is a common “bug” for some, especially in children. It is a very contagious condition. Be very careful about hygiene when working with and caring for a person with a pink eye.

What you need:

  • Black Lipton Tea-original-1-2 bags (avoid Lipton tea with other ingredients added)
  • Cotton Balls-2
  • Boiling Water-1cup
  • Gloves-optional but preferable

*In my case I only had Lipton tea “specially blended for iced tea”, that one works great as well.

How to:

  • Put on the gloves.
  • Steep Lipton tea in a cup of boiling water and make it as dark as possible, for approximately 5-10 minutes squeezing the tea bag slightly with the spoon.
  • Use two cotton balls, one for each eye, (not to transfer conjunctivitis into the other eye if only one has it).

  • Soak those two cotton balls into the warm, black Lipton tea, and squeeze out access tea gently.
  • Apply on the closed eyes.
  • After about 5-10 minutes of having it on the eyes, squeeze some of the tea into the corners of the eyes, using separate cotton balls.
  • Make sure to blink with a drop in the corner of an eye so that tea gets in the eye, then wipe excess tea off.
  • Repeat the procedure for about every 2 hours throughout the day for faster results.

This remedy does not sting the eye. It also does not bring as much discomfort and mess as some of the other remedies do.

Symptoms of a pink eye:

  • It may feel like you have a sand in your eye, specifically under the eyelid.
  • Eye begins to itch a lot.
  • The white area of an eye is pink, and looks very irritated.
  • Yellowish mucous is oozing out slowly from the corner of an eye.
  • After waking up in the morning, your eye lids are glued shut with a mucous that dried and became crusty.
  • Lashes has yellowish, dried and crusty mucous on them.

It is important to treat pink eye right away that the condition does not worsen.

How to avoid having a pink eye when someone around you has it:

  • Wash your hands after every time you come in with a contact of a pink eye.
  • Wash hands frequently using antiseptic soap and use single-use towels during the eye infection to prevent spreading it.
  • If it is an older kid or adult, encourage them to not touch their eye/eyes, and if they do, to wash their hands thoroughly right away.
  • Sanitize door handles, switches and faucets with alcohol wipes to prevent other family members from getting sick.
  • Avoid wearing eye makeup or contact lenses during the eye infection. Never share eye makeup with others.
  • In other words hygiene needs to be under extra attention in this case.

Remember that it takes a bit of time for the infection to clear up especially if it wasn’t been treated right away. Be patient and consistent with treating it. In the worst case scenario it will take you 3 days to treat it, otherwise if you are very accurate about hygiene and persistent in treating it throughout the day, it will clear up faster. Again, it is different on every person as we are all unique in our own ways, but for me and my family this method is the most effective and our favorite.
