It’s a good idea to keep a jar of this tea in your kitchen cupboard through out the winter especially when it’s a cold/flu season. Even my kids like the taste of it especially if I add enough peppermint to it.
- Red raspberry leaf (dried)-3cups
- Elder Flowers-1/4 of a cup
- Boneset-1/4 of a cup
- Yarrow Flower-1/4 of a cup
*I used a 1 cup measurement because I like to have a lot of it handy, but you can use any measurement as long as it matches the parts.
3 parts-Red Raspberry Leaf-(anti flu)
1 part-Peppermint-(circulatory enhancer, flavor aid)
1 part-Nettles-(strengthens the immune system)
1/4 part-Elder Flower-(immune system)
1/4 part-Boneset-(fever breaker)
1/4 part-Yarrow Flower-(fever breaker)
1/4 part-Alfalfa Leaf-(immune system)
Mix it all together and keep it in a jar, and your cold/flu tea is ready for brewing!
Pour about a quart of boiling water (4 cups) over about a 1/2 or 1/4 cup of Cold/Flu tea and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. Use the proportions to your liking. If you choose to dilute it more with water you may do so.
When you feel like you are about to get sick or beginning to get sick with flu, brew it in a teapot and drink, drink, drink. You can sweeten it with a red raspberry jam, or honey, or just drink it as an iced tea! Be creative!
While having a fever, it’s nice to also add a raspberry jam in it, raspberry is a very good fever reducer, best to do that before night time and try to sweat a lot under the blanket. The next morning you should feel great!
When my family and I drink this cold/flu tea during the cold season we are less sick. Even once we get the symptoms of cold/flu it truly helps us fight it quicker with milder symptoms.
P.S. If you keep your cold/flu tea mix in a paper bag it will help the herbs stay fresher and flavorful longer.
Where I Buy Herbs:
I buy herbs mostly online at mountainroseherbs.com and sometimes at the local store called Lorien Herbs & Natural Foods, Huckleberry’s or at any other Natural Market that sells it.
**If you know that you are or might be sensitive to any of the herbs above, please don’t drink this tea, and consult your PCP.
